Coda & iCoda Network Requirements

Coda (Mac OSX) and iCoda (iOS) devices only communicate via wifi. Knowing that, the network requirements for the various types of Coda/iCoda processes that might be in play are listed below.

Activation of iOS Devices

  • Wifi network must be connected to internet
  • Wifi network must have Bonjour and mDNS enabled

Uploading/Downloading of Forms or Timelines via Customer Network

Uploading/Downloading of Forms or Timelines via WLAN without Internet

  • No internet required
  • WLAN can be created via wireless router or Ad hoc network
  • Coda and iCoda devices must be within WLAN range of each other

Coda "Server" Functionality

  • Real-time coding via the Command Centre is conducted over standard TCP/IP and only requires a port to be enabled which can be configured in Coda/iCoda
  • No mDNS is required

A list of Apple-used ports can be found here

    • Bonjour uses ports 1900, 5350, 5351, 5353
    • mDNS uses 5353
